The compresser/fan will turn on when the thermostat calls for it. But after a couple of minutes I think the compresser makes a really high pitched squeal. Then no cold air comes out of ducts. The compresser shuts off but the fan still goes. Anyone know what could be wrong?

Had a tech come put before this problem and they but a hard start kit on because neither would start up. Ran for a day before that problem started.
Tech costs too much to keep calling them.

And the thermostat question is, is there anything wrong with running the thermostat wires threw the heat/cooling ducts?

Thanks
Nick

Sounds like the internal relief is opening inside the compressor. Nothing you can do without a tech diagnosing it.

As for the stat wire, around here you can't run it through the duct.

I agree with Matt on this..

Check with your local code on the wires.

We can here but it has to be those CAT 5 duct rated.

get some prices for a new system, soup to nuts... shop around and don't always go low bidder....you'll get what you pay for most times.

The system is only a year old. But it was a cheap system. Paid $1,200 for the AC 1300 Sq Ft Home. Not sure what the name on it is. No labels.

The reason why I want to run the thermostat wires threw the ducts is because I'm going to put a 2 zone system in. Upstairs and downstairs. Problem is none of the walls upstairs match with the ones downstairs. Besides external walls.
I live in Michigan so I'm not sure if its against code.

Thanks for the help.

The compressor sounds like it is done. There is plemum stat wire which can be ran inside ducts. Check with your local codes.
