I've just had a new American Standard Heritage 14 heat pump installed with a variable speed air handler. After the unit cycles off from a heat cycle there is a rather loud rattling noise that radiates from the frigerant lines. This lasts for about 30-45 seconds and it gradually gets quieter then promptly stops. It doesn't happen on every cycle. This is a second floor unit with about 35' of refrigerant line. Any thoughts?

If it is new the best advice is call the people that put it in.
Is it a rattle, or a knocking sound?

It's actually a knocking noise. To me it sounds like a check valve chattering? I talked to the installer and he thinks it's the reversing valve but he's not sure. He said it might also be related to the charge. He said he was going to make some calls?
