I recently moved into a condo with some high sloping walls (20+ ft. in some areas). I'd rather have a professional work this for safety reasons. I tried going through the Costco / CertaPro program but I'm outside their service areas. I need to look for someone, but I need some tips in evaluating contractors. Random calls through the phone directory probably is a hit or miss, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

I've never hired a contractor in my life, so tips or a reference URL or two would be great. Thanks.

The best way to hire any contractor [for any line of work] is by refferal and references. If a painter has many satisfied customers then he would likely satisfy you also.

I agree, the best way is to ask friends, relatives, and co-workers

Looking for a local PDCA contractor (http://www.pdca.org/findapro.html) would be a good start.

Check for proper licenses, general liability insurance, and worker's comp. coverage.

Ask about guarantee/warranty on labor & materials.

Ask for references, and take the time to call them and ask about their experience with the contractor.
