Gas and Oil Home Heating Furnaces - Oil Burner Cleaning

I have a Weil-McLain oil burner, about 8 yrs old. I've tried to find out on-line how to cleanout an oil burner / furnace. Is there info out there on do-it-yourself oil burner cleaning?

You can do the basic of chaning out the oil filter, and cleaning the heat exchanger..


When was the last time you had it serviced by an Oil pro?

If you had not had this done in the last 2-3 years, I think you are by far better off getting someone in to tune it up for you.

They should take readings like, smoke, temp, draft, CO, pressure to make sure the oil is burning clean and effecent.

They should change out the oil filter, pump screen, replace the nozzel on the burner.

The burner was cleaned about 10 months ago. I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt to go in there and clean and vacuum the insides and change the filter. Where can I get a long brush to clean the insides? Where can I get the filters?

In the spring I would have a pro come in and do a full clean / tune-up.

If this boiler was professionally done 10 months ago, it certainly should not need cleaning again this soon. You do not need nor want a long brush to use on a Weil-McLain. To check how dirty the boiler is, you can remove the top. If you do, be careful about replacing any gasketing you disturb.
