I recently ran out of oil and have had the tank filled. The furnace is running but there is no heat. I think the burner is running but the fan is not. Any ideas how I can get the fan running? Thanks.

If the burner is running, touch the exhaust pipe to see if it is hot. If not hot, shut the burner off NOW. You could be pumping fuel into the furnace without it burning.

Thank you. I'm not sure what the exhaust pipe is but nothing I felt was hot so I just shut it off. Is the exhaust pipe the small pipe going up from the burner area?

The exhaust pipe should be a thin wall galvanized pipe from 5 to maybe as big as 10 inches in diameter. It goes to the chimney.
Are you sure you have forced hot air heat & not hot water? Hot water heat has no fan.

That pipe was cold. I do have forced hot air heat.

OK, it is probably air bound but the burner should not continue to run. Oil fired equipment usually shuts down in any where from 5 to 90 seconds if there is no flame detected. You need to call a service company & have them check things out for you.

Hope I didn't upset you by asking about if you were sure you had hot air heat. We have had similar questions only to find out the person had hot water heat.

Oh no, not at all. I can't imagine being on your end and trying to troubleshoot problems with all the different kinds of furnaces, etc. out there. This is my first time using your service. I read some of the other posts and thought I would give it a try and see if I could save a few bucks. Being female and knowing nothing about furnaces, I'm always afraid I'm going to end up spending more than I need on repairs, etc. Thanks again for your help.
