Just got home this evening after first light snow in the DC metro area and no heat.
Moved into home 5 months ago and pevoius owner had furnance serviced in September 04. House has programmable thermostat. Moved fan switch from AUTO to ON, but still nothing happens. Opened the cover after reading a few threads here and pressed the red reset button on the "Beckett" equipment, but still nothing.
Any help would be really appreciated. Will call for service tomorrow, but have no idea when they will be able to come out. Bundled up in tons of colthing right now...bbrrrr

Make sure the emergency switch is turned on. It is usually in the stairwell at the top of the stairs. Also check circuit breaker & service switch near the furnace.

halleluyah :) was the switch at the top of the stairs. Did have a copla people over and it must have mistakely got switched off. I'll just wait a bit until it heats up...and I've thawed off... before shredding the layers of cothing.

Glad it was that simple. FYI: They make switch guards to prevent such accidents. These guards should be available at any home center, hardware store, or electrical supply house. It only takes a couple of minutes to install.

I'll swing by homedepot tomorrow evening. Right next door to where I live and pick one up.
Is that a pic of Obelix from the Asterix comic series you have next to your handle "Grady?" If so...may you never run out of boars :)

Actually I think it is Hagar the Horrible (comic strip character). He just seemed to fit so I selected him from the list of pics available here on DIY.
Thank you for the well wishes in any case.
Should Home Depot not have what you as for (or not know), you can use a copper or plastic pipe strap & just put the cover plate screws thru the holes in the strap. These straps are semi-circular & are used to hold pipes to floor joists. I can't remember if I use the ones for 1/2" or 3/4" pipe but they should be less than $0.25 each.
