Hello Ga.dawg and Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliances topic.
You are in extreme danger of carbon monoxide poisoning..
>>>Do not use that furnace or heater until it is inspected and certified to be safe to use. This is not a do it yourself project or task. You life depends upon that unit operating correctly and safely.<<<
Chances are the internal firebox is cracked, distorted and or ruptured. Flames are smothering as a result and the burners are not operating properly. (Burning to fuel completely) Chances are there may be an air flow problem or an excessively linted firebox. Restricted and or blocked venting system, etc.
Could be any number of causes. Point is the unit is creating CO, toxic products produced by incomplete combustion and other toxic fumes. Which are being experienced by the symptoms you described. Have that unit serviced asap and do not use it until checked and serviced by a licensed heating contractor whom works on this type of equipment or a licensed RV dealer or RV service shop.

CO may be defined as a non smellable or visable odor. Not always true or correct. Incomplete combustion of gas fuel (natural gas or propane gas) will infact produce a smell, odor and cause eyes, nose and throat, etc. to burn.
Products of incomplete combustion produce a noticeable foul smell with noticeable symptoms, a very distinct toxic odor, causing clearly noticeable and visual physical and health effects. Turn off the appliance causing the effects immediately, if possible, ventilate the area, if possible. Get medical attention and first aid help immediately. Time is of the assents.

I totally agree. Thank your lucky stars you are still alive to ask about the heater. Don't use that thing again untill it is professionally serviced. :alarm:
