When it gets very cold outside(single digits or lower) the fresh air intake for the furnace frosts up and the furnace shuts down until I go outside and remove the frost. The exhaust is about 10 inches away from the intake. What can I do to stop this from happening? Is the exhaust to close to the intake?

Is there a screen on the intake?
How is the exhaust set up? Goose neck up w/ a 90? Shoot stright out? How far away from the house?
Or can you take a picture?

There is no screen on the intake. The exhaust has a "t" on it pointing up and down. The intake has a sweep elbow on it pointing down. They are both about 12 inches away from the house. I could post a picture later tonight. I have taken the sweep off the intake hoping that would fix things. Could I add about 1 or 2 feet on the intake to get it away from the exhaust? I also have wondered if they should be switched around with the exhaust having the sweep albow pointing up.
Thanks for the reply!

I thihnk that "T" is your problem.
This is what I suggest.
-cut back the intake closer to the home, and put a 90 degree pointing down.
-Remove the T.
Try that for awhile see if that helps..
~~~~~
What's happing on your current set up, some steam is blowing both ways (up and down).. as the down steam is going to come back up, and it's getting sucked up in your intake.
