I am in the process of rehabbing a 100 year old house. I have the opportunity to place the new gas furnace in several places. I have chosen an area that is adjacent to an outside wall for easy venting and close to the gas meter. I plan on running new gas pipe also. I have read that the exhaust and fresh air vents should be sloped towards the furnace, this sounds backwards to me, seems like you would want slope to the outside. I am planning on building a closet enclosure to place this unit in and having the fresh air return out the side of the closet. This home has 10 feet ceilings so I am going to drop the ceilings and run flex vent above the new ceilings. I will be having a professional pull the permit and inspect my work as well as help with any problems. Here is the unit that I am installing.

That would be illegal. I purchased from a dealer, and will have a licensed professional sign off on install.

it is legal. no warranty over the internet. regardless of what the seller tells you.
a Goodman tied to a flex system, you're gonna need that warranty.

Well its to late to send this baby back. Why would flex duct cause a problem with the furnace. I understand its not as efficient, but I don't see why that would cause a problem with the furnace. Does the furnace really know what kind of duct work that it is blowing air into.

Flex is about the worse ducting to use on ANY air moving equipement..
I do appliance sales, and GE and Maytag says warranity is voided if flex is used.
About the flex, the duct has lots or ridge.. That ridge is like a bumpy highway.. If you were to drive down this highway, do you go fast?? no.. More likley you are going to slow down.
A short run of flex is fine. but for a whole home. No.
I had a service call on a furnace one time, home owner used flex in the whole house.. He kept replacing the blower motor. he called us to see why it wouldn't fire off.. It turned out the heat exchanger was burned out from overheating.
As for warranity, I can't find the link back that goodman will NOT honor warranity for any of the equipement sold on line. It must be installed by a goodman dealer.
The I/O maual is RIGHt about the venting.. Depends on how your home is set up, it's best to try to get the equipement in the center of the home for better air flow.
So save yourself a headache in the long run, let the pro install it for you.. shop around for a good one that will size the ductwork right. and provoids warranity.
