Hello all:
I am planning on replacing the 25 year old Tappan furnace in my home. I thought I could get another Tappan if this one could last this long, but I never heard about this brand. Their website shows new furnaces but they have only one dealer near here(Minneapolis). On asking around I learnt it is not being made anymore. I didn't call this dealer yet. The website doesn't have an email contact to ask about why it is not carried by others.
I am planning on calling some local contractors for estimates; I think they would want me to buy the brands they carry.
I would like to know which other brands are good. Can any one please share your experience with the brands you have, however long you have had them?
Thanks for your time and opinions.
Syed.

Tappen are still made.. Just not as many out there.. Dealer maybe limted as you saw.
Any brand is good as long the dealer does a good job on the install.. Make sure they DO a manual J on the home.. DO NOT let them put in the same sized equipement that you already have! Do not let them do the "Rule of thumb".
My old system was 37 years old, it was 115,000 BTU down to 60,000 two stage Trane. Most of the time, it runs on low stage of 37,000 BTU..
Go with a dealer you feel comfortable with, have delt with before in the past.
If you plan on being in the home for a long time., I'd suggest the two stage system with variable speed blower. Our house is comfortable in ALL rooms.
Do not cheap out.. Get a 10 years parts/labor warranity.. Lot of these equipement are not built like the old stuff.. old stuff don't have much in it.. where the new one does have more.
I personaly perfer.
-Trane/American Standard.
