Help needed! My Crown heater has flames comming of it. Could a bad vent damper cause this? I read an earlier post which describes my situation. The term in the earlier post that describes what my Crown heater is doing "smothering ". Again, could this be caused by a defective Effikal (rvgp-ks 6) vent damper?

Turn it off NOW! Check to make sure the damper is open.. if it's open.. Then maybe the heat exchanger is shooted up?

When was the last time you had a tune/clean up?

Tell us more about this furnace. Is it in a house or mobile home? How old? Any chance of ice build up where the vent exits the dwelling?

I thought the damper control is electric and unless it opens it won't complete the other circuits necessary to fire up the unit.

Unless we know more of this furnaces history and location ...........

I knew a guy who had a newer furnace in an old mobile home (from early 60's or earlier?) and I think he had a natural gas furnace hooked up to the propane tank! (Different pressure requirement conflict) His burner blew a hole right through the heat exchanger and came out the back wall of the furnace!!!!! (I saw it, when the furnace man removed the furnace. Lucky nobody died or was overcome by CO!!!! (The mobile home was only a 10 x 50 with 4 people living in it!

That's why I 'd like you to tell us more.

The problem with the heater is that it was dirty. I had soot at the bottom as well as the top of the heater. I had the heater cleaned four years ago. I had it professionally cleaned, now it it working fine. Thanks for everybody's feedback.I do need to have two replaced. Again, thanks!
