Church Peerless Gas heater want work
Hi our church is very small in number and trying to get our heat fixed
it is a peerless gas heater that hangs from the celling we changed the starter we can light the pilot but when you turn it to on it goes out we hold down the knob light pilot it lites fine but when we let up on the knob it goes out before we can even turn it on so a gas man said it was the starter so we got one from him
it still want work i hope someone can help it has a carberater on it could it be filled with dust or something all help is needed :confused:

Sounds like a classic case of bad thermocouple. A rod type thing that sticks into the pilot flame with a small copper tube going from it to the gas valve usually.

Thanks for fast reply that is what we did replace they said it was a starter but it sounds just like what we replaced that is what it was the thermacouple.

If you hold down the pilot button for 30 seconds or so with the pilot lit & the pilot still goes out you need to make sure the pilot is enveloping at least the top 1/3 of the thermocouple. In this amount of time the thermocouple should start to glow a dull red (unless the room is brightly lit).
If all checks out ok so far, you either got a bad thermocouple (not unheard of) or the gas valve is bad.
