Just received a "brand new" (cought couht) a 1972 ariens snow blower model 910955 with a h70 engine

according to the owner manual, the front "blades" mecanism need to be lubricated using "Ariens Premium Gear Lubricant MP-90" every 25hours..

so I'm doing a complete tune-up on this.. and I want to know if I can use normal 80w90 oil... (according to the mean of the letter and number) do that make sense ?

of course this 30 years old snowblower will work with anything in.. but I want to ask to expert who know the viscosity of the ""Ariens Premium Gear Lubricant MP-90"

and by the way, witch spark plug is the right one ??
after lot of read... I've saw everyone seem to use one of theses, RJ8C , J8C , J19LM, but witch one is the EXACT one I need ?

Sorry, but I don't get to work on snowblowers here in the deep south, so I don't know what type lubricant you need. Probably gear oil, but not sure.

You can use the J19LM plug.

Yes, 80W90 is the oil you will use. If, for reasons of leakage in the gear box, you can substitute the oil for "00" grease. This is a winter weight grease and will work well in such a situation. The correct plug that this engine calls for is either a J8C or J17LM.

"00" grease is Bentonite-like grease and is liquid-like. Yes, it will lubricate everything in the gearbox very well. Unless you have an obvious leak, I'd use the 80W90 though.

3 differents answer for the spark plug model #... not that bad :D
Am i able to change the spark plug wire ?

anyway, I've try to drain it today but I wasn't able
been able to finaly start the engine but my metal original gas tank is leaking :(

you might be able to put some jb-weld on the tank? as for the spark plug wire, you'd have to replace the coil, the wire is made into it.

I'm sure Puey has the factory reccomended plug #s. I reccomended the J19LM because it works as good as anything in most all flathead small engines. It's an all around plug.

That's a great old machine, cast iron auger gearbox and automotive style differential on most of them.

Things to check:

- scraper bar and skids are usually worn out.
- drive belt may need replacing.
- Zerks on rakes should be lubed. Then the shear pins should be removed and the rakes rotated a few times on the auger shaft to spread the grease around. Otherwise the rake will freeze to the shaft and your auger gearbox or engine will become your shear pin.
- Take the wheels off and check the bushings that support the axle. They're often worn out on old machines.
- Also check the bushings at each end of the auger shaft, also often worn out. About $3 at dealers.
- Check the friction disk for wear. They're $10-20 and take an hour or two to change on these machines.

DupliColor DE1620 Chevrolet Orange Engine Enamal is the same color as Ariens orange but costs much less than the dealer touchup paint.

Also go to Ariens.com and put in model number,see parts break down.
Got 2 books for mine, for about $13.00, 2 yrs ago (parts and service manual)
Covers sno-thro from early 60's on up.
These guys are very serious about getting things right for ANY question about ANYTHING with a motor!!!

checked the ariens ans tecumseh website with the exact model # but it seem to be generic usage.. nothing specific to my model: I need a air filter box.. can't find way to find the exact part #...

also.. for the carb
there is TONS of different H70 carb kit on ebay.. all different, how do I find a complete one ?

The "heater box" will be a Tecumseh part. Post your spec number and someone can look up the heater box p/n. It's probably NLA, but at least you'll have the number handy when checking Ebay.

The right carb kit can be identified at the same time.

snow blower is a 910955 with a tecumseh 7hp h70 130158A

the serial number of the engine indicate it's a 1972 (2175D)

i'm looking for an air box and a complete carb kit..

checked the microfiche for the engine, but no complete explosive view of the carb :(

Keep your eyes open for a cover from an earlier year too. With the speed control assembly that you have you may be able to find a cover From an H50, 60, or 70. May have to change mufflers.

one at the bottom and one on the side is required... true ? (also suppose to have 2 little oring and brass washer just beforce the "needle screw") but theses kit don't seem to have them...
