Hey all,

My wife wants a small freezer (one of those 5 cu ft ones) for X-mas. The measurements make it the right size to sit along the short edge of our kitchen island. The only catch is that the plug on the island is on a GFCI circuit with the actually GFCI switched outlet over on the counter next to the range.

My question is, would it be safe to plug the freezer into a GFCI outlet, since it occasionally flips off (I'm assuming from moisture in the air near the sink/dishwasher)? Is there any way to fix the circuit so it won't flip off?

I guess I may end up running the cord across the floor and taping it down. Ugh.

Thanks,

Joe

If the GFI is tripping off due to moisture & steam from the dishwasher its doing what it is designed to do. Don't mess with it. Since you have nuisence trips its not a good idea to plug a freezer into a GFI. Probably a good idea to run a new circuit & outlet just for the freezer since it draws good deal of amperage when it first comes on. Dave
