Is there any problem with laying carpet without a pad on a concrete floor?

I have finished my basement remodel, and have limited resources left over to do the floor. I would like to start using the space, and save money for the flooring I really want, but for now I am considering placing an industrial style carpet on the floor. I had purchased a remnant before thanksgiving and just rolled it out on the floor, so I could set up a few cots for the kids. And that’s what got me thinking.
If I can do this, could I use a little adhesive around the edges to hold it in place?

Using adhesive around the perimeter will create bubbles in the carpet. Carpet backing does to expand and contract in relation to temperature and humidity. If you want to go that route, I would recommend using carpet glue under the entire piece.

You can do this, but I would reconsider putting a pad under this carpet. Pad is pretty cheap and the insulating and shock absorbing qualities it provides are essential to me on a basement concrete floor.
