I have a GE Electric Double oven - Model JKP38G - and the top oven does not register the correct heating temperature. That is, the element heats up and the light on the temperature setting goes out, but by looking at the temperature displayed on an oven thermometer, the internal temperature of the oven is many degrees less than the preset temperature. What could be the problem?
The bottom oven is fine.

How much is many degrees different? Some ovens can be off by as much as 50 degrees. Sometimes you can pull the temp. knob off & adjust the temp. on the knob to the temp. on your oven thermometer. Sounds like the ovens thermostat is going bad. Can be pretty expensive to replace. You might be better off to turn the temp. knob up to a higher temp. setting to reach the oven temp. you want & go by your oven thermometer. Dave

I have adjusted the temperature thing on the knob and the problem is that the temperature varies a lot from one test to another. One time the temperature setting was close to the actual, and then the next time it was off by 50 degrees or more.

Only thing to do is replace the thermostat then. Get the model # off the plate on the oven & go to your local appliance store & get a price on a replacement. Dave
