Hi,
I've made a headboard consisting of 6 pieces of chipboard (don't know if people outside South Africa uses that term for the wood). Boards are 45cm X 45cm X 2cm. Covered in batting and has fabric stapled to the back side of the boards.

I now have these 6 seperate boards which I need to mount directly on the wall, obviously having to be mounted exactly touching each other in a 2 X 3 (2 height and 3 length) configuration.

I have thought about using doublesided tape, but the strong tape (No more Nails) isn't thick enough owing to the fabric and batting on the backside of the board. This leaves around a 0.5cm gap between the board and the wall.

I have thought about putting picture hooks on the back, but unfortunately you cannot physically see the hook going onto the screw in the wall. Is there a simple solution to fixing these boards to the wall, without creating a frame, or having anything show around the squares?

Thanks a lot,
Chris

i would align them all together side by side on the floor with the good side facing down. then use a thin narrow strip of wood, something like a wooden yard stick shape, and fasten them all together as a unit.

then, either (1.) hang the unit on the wall from the yardstick thing. either by hanging it like a picture on a few nails or by nailing through the yardstick thing from the front and then hide the head of the nail/screw with a piece of fabric (if it's gathered) or with a fabric covered button or something.

or (2) make 2 legs for the unit to stand on. that's how headboards usually are made anyway. you don't have to fasten the legged unit to your bedframe. just snug up the bedframe to the unit. the headboard will just be sort of squished in between the bedframe & the wall - no need to fasten it to the wall at all. and the legs will be hidden.

i've seen this done both ways.

I like Annette's yardstick idea
Sort of like how one would attach a "floating shelf" to the wall

If the fabric is porous enough, you could actually drive finish screws with #1 square drive head through the headboard directly into the wall. The fabric will heal itself if you are careful not to tear any threads in the process. Just a thought.
