Hye im new in this forums so a big YO to everyone?
my first post i have a JVC stereo reciever model number RX-ES1SL its been working over 12 months now guess what, yeah u know it messed up after 12 months so my warranty is finished. The problem is that when u switch it on the display comes on but doesn`t show any thing its just a blue display normally it would say tv.. video... dvd .... etc but doesn`t say anytihng so i got no 5.1
anyone can help would be apprecaited
ps never buy jvc the call centre are a bunch of donuts

A couple things come to mind:
1) You've turned off the display. Possible on some receivers, don't know if its so on your JVC.
2) Isn't it connected to the tv so you can see the setup etal on the tv?
3) The display isn't related to the surround sound, though the same problem may be causing both to fail. Do you have any sound at all? If you put in a DVD and pres the DVD button on the remote, does the DVD play? What sound do you get - stereo, mono, surround? What speakers are working?
