Outdoor Power Equipment and Small Engines - Craftsman 17" bar chainsaw 917.351780

Hi, I have a buddy who had the fortune of having one of these units show up in his front lawn this fall. It either fell off the back of a truck, the previous owner couldn't get it started and pitched it, or some thief thought he really had something until he figured out how old it was.
We have gotten it running and it's pretty strong, however, there are a couple of things we wanted to know about it. Like fuel/oil mixture. We had 4:1 in it when it was started up and ran fine. Is this what they recommended?
Who made this originally?
What extactly did the "Bolt Action Power Sharp" do? There is a knob with detents on the clutch cover, but it really doesn't do anything in it's current state.
We were hoping maybe someone out there could help us with this little saw to save having to order a manual.

use a name brand two stroke oil for air cooled engines. 40:1 or 50:1 are the most common. mix according to the oil instructions. sounds like you have the type of chain that uses a built in sharpening stone and sharpens at the top of the tooth. scap that chain and go with conventional type of the same pitch with low kickback features.

flopshot is right about the chain; throw it far away--the mix for that saw is 32 to 1.
