I would like some opinions about using a 5/4 trim board around a vinyl window with brick mould. The siding will be Hardi smooth lap. The 5/4 board will fit flush with the brick mould projection. Has anyone else done this - what did the finished product look like?

Most Andersen windows have a nailing flange that is 1 5/16" removed from the exterior edge of the window frame. When I've put Miratech 5/4 trim around windows like that, it works fine, except when you try to caulk the joint between the window and the 5/4 trim. Since both the window and the trim will be at the same level, it's difficult to get a nice bead of caulk there. One thing that helps is having the Miratech painted the same color as the window, and having caulking to match. You have to be really careful when you caulk, having a fine nozzle, and keep the tip of the tube clean as you caulk. That's the only problem I'd foresee.
I would imagine that you'll also want a dripcap over the top of the trim.
