Neighbor has Comfort 10 Carrier heat pump which is quite loud at night and keeps us awake. This happens to be the only Carrier model without the Silencer system built in of course. Reverberating compressor noise is irritating. Just moved in so is a new problem. Tried ear plugs but not working out.
Anyone know of any potention solutions. Possible compressor blanket? Fence? Any ideas greatly appreciated. Have not yet approached our new neighbor so don't know if will be receptive or not.
Thanks in advance, Hydril :wall:

Must really be a noisy unit, not much you can do except make them aware that it bothers you in a real nice neighborly way. Maybe you could have a cookout invite the neighbors and set up the cookout where the noise will be real obvious and maximized for their enjoyment, speak to them a lot and in a really low tone (jokes work well people hate missing the punch line) so they have to keep asking you to repeat yourself LOL.

I would hate to be in your situation! No matter how you approach your neighbors, you will most likely be looked upon as a trouble making complainer. Whenever buying a home, the location of heat pumps, air conditioners and pool pumps should be considered with relation to your master bedroom - especially if you are noise sensitive. If you are lucky, the neighbors may also be unhappy with the amount of noise the heat pump is producing. If the offending pump is newly installed, there may be a slim chance to have it replaced with a different model. Do you know if a sound silencer may be added? If the pump has been around a while, the cost of replacing it for your good may be out of the question. Maybe you could offer to share (or pay in full) the cost of some type of sound baffle or barrier. Even this may be offensive to the neighbors because they will have to tolerate the new, unwanted structure on their property. Like I said before, I would hate to be in your situation.
