We have Hollywood stairs [ open on the back ] that leed to the second floor of our home, we would like to have the runners carpeted.

This I assume would involve wrapping the carpet totally around the exposed runner board, the seam would probably be under the runner however it would have to look good do to the fact the underside is visible.

Has anyone seen this done succesfully ? If so any suggestions on the best way to proceed? Best type of carpet ?

Long time ago we lived in a townhouse in Cal that was done that way. The carpet was same as what was on the floors, nothing special. The seam was on the back (vertical) edge, so was completely out of sight. And here's a trick we used that might come in handy in a few years for when it gets a little worn - remove the pieces from the stairs and flip them over; voila! fresh carpet on the stairs. Just used a heavy duty staple gun to anchor the pieces.
