Finally broke down and bought a $35 DVD player, but connected the red yellow and white cables to their corresponding ports and all I get is sound, but no picture.
My TV is a Toshiba 32A14, and it has inputs on the back for Video 1 and Video 2. There is also a port for S Video but it's not in use.
A VCR is currently hooked up to Video 1, and the DVD player is hooked up to Video 2. The television is set to Video 2.
I can hear the background music for the DVD's menu screen, but the screen is black. This means I can't see the onscreen DVD player operation menu as well as the menu for the movie I was hoping to watch.
I do not have cable, but I do have rabbit ears connected via coaxial cable to the antenna hookup.
Office Space Special Edition with Flair is calling my name... help me figure out how to watch it!
Thank you!

When we bought my daughter's dvd player, Radio shack told us that since she had a VCR and not a combo there is a special box that you can buy I don't remember what it is called exactly, but what it does is lets the dvd player play while hooked to the VCR. Call radio shack and they will tell you what it's called, but the reason you aren't getting a picture is because you are hooked through a VCR. It does that becasue of the copyrite laws :)

That's a good suggestion, but each player device is connected to the TV using the Video 1 (VCR) and Video 2 (DVD) ports.
I do not have the DVD player connected to the VCR that is connected to the TV. I read elsewhere that doing it that way is a bad idea because of that Macrovision problem you described.
Any other ideas?
Pleasepleaseplease? :D

FOLLOW-UP: In the light of day I found my error.
There are TWO yellow ports on the back of the DVD player. One is for video, the other is for coaxial. And I had the damned yellow cable plugged into coaxial.
Oh, well: perhaps someday, someone else will Google for 'Trutech tt320 audio troubleshoot "no picture"' and this won't all be for naught!
It's a grey and rainy day here, and a perfect day to curl up with a video.... a video that I can actually SEE and not just hear. Thanks!!

That is bad, coaxial should be orange, or you are bit color blind, or have bad lighting back there (just saying). I was hooking up a DVD player yester, and the blue glow from the screen made the colors look off.
