any idea if an electric stove for basement use during partys is a good idea?

i would prefer a gas stove however, its just not practical for the venting situation it requires...

i want a heating stove for continuous use when i guests are over, and not just for everyday use.

micheal,

do you want a stovetop or stovetop/oven combo.
do you have the ability from your breaker/fuse panel to provide the power to said stove/oven (240 volts, 50amp double pole breaker or fuses)?
do you already have gas supplied to the house?

Any reason in particular that you want a stove and not any other type of electric heat? Most electric heating stoves are portable units designed to look like wood stoves, but they don't work any better than a simple electric space heater and, IMHO, don't look very real. If the ambiance and radiant warmth of a stove is what you're after, direct vent gas is probably the easiest way to go and still have most of the qualities you want. Have you had any installation estimates to know that venting isn't possible? What type of heating is in the rest of the house?
