Hello everyone! Thanks for a great forum.

I tried an initial search but did not see anything similar to my problem.

We bought a GE Profile XL44 about 2 years ago. The oven has been in service for about 18 months.

Recently, when the oven is started, it will not preheat normally. Sometimes it will work fine, othertimes it may take 30 minutes for the gas to start. The glowbar appears to be working normally, it will heat up within seconds of starting the stove.

The broiler works normally, and the cooktop burners are fine also.

I figure there is a sensor somewhere that tells the oven to start the gas flow when it feels the glow bar is up to speed, does that sound right? Any other ideas here?

Hello danwink and Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliances topic.

Chances are the Hot Surface Ignitior (HSI) is to weak to ignite gas. Replace it. Only option as the first attempt to fix the problem. The sensor is the HSI and if it is not hot enough the gas valve will not open, thus the symtom you described results. Read the sticky note provided below in a link.

Cautionary Note:
Before attempting any repairs, be sure to unplug the appliance from the wall receptacle power source first.
