You don't have to get the agitator off. You won't see nothing there. It just goes over a shaft. No drain down under there.

Washing machines have an inner basket that people often call the tub, and it has holes. But the water really fills and is contained by the outer tub that you can't see, and leaks thru the holes of the inner tub (basket). The inner basket is what spins and contains the agitator.

But when it drains, the water gets pulled out of the outer tub from the bottom by a pump.

Does your washer spin at all when it is in the mode to pump out water, or no?

If it spins, you can rule out the lid switch as being the problem, or it being out of balance.

If it doesn't spin, it could be the lid switch went bad, or the machine went out of balance on the last cycle?

If it spins, but no draining, you could have something like clothing in the pump. The pump is under the machine and is quite apparent as it will be roundish and plastic with at least two rubber hoses connected to it.

There could be other mechanical issues also, depending on the machine. But this is a start.
