So my remodel is almost done. Kitchen floor in no problem. Bedroom floor in no problem. Both Pergo Presto.
Family room was an add-on. I ripped up the carpet, and found a pretty darn level subfloor of old plywood. The step into the room is made of brick and the subfloor was build around the step and it's bottom perimeter, about 1 foot on each side (The step used to go to the outside of the house). The brick around the step sits up about 1/2" above the plywood subfloor. So when the carpet installer put in the carpet, he used slats, cardboard..whatever he could to smooth out the transition between the step and subfloor.
This obviously won't work for laminate, so here is my thought of a plan:
1. Put on a new 3/4" ply layer over the existing subfloor.
2. Run the ply up to the brick area, but not over it. The brick layer now will sit slightly under the top of the ply.
3. Use leveling compound to even out the brick area.
I would then level out any other spots on the floor, and then I'd be ready for install. Thoughts?
Also, I'm thinking to either 1) use thinset to square up the brick step (mortar lines, etc) or 2) encase the step with 1/2" ply fastening with masonary screws and liquid nails. Thoughts?
Thanks All !!!
