Designing Kitchens and Bathrooms - Merits of full compared to 3/4 bath

I have three bathrooms; one's full and two are 3/4 (one tub/shower and two showers). I can't remember the last time anyone used the tub.

Is there a resale rule of thumb that says I should keep the tub in a remodel rather than replace it with a shower stall and gain some space by doing so?

We never use our own tub either and so are planning to make the second bathroom that we're building next year a 3/4 (shower only). In terms of resale value, though, you should definitely keep the one tub that you have for 2 reasons: women and children. Lots of women like the relaxation of a bath, but more importantly, little kids need a bathtub.

If you had two or three full baths and wanted to get rid of one tub, maybe. No way would I get rid of the only tub in the house. Between my wife and daughter, I bet there are half a dozen baths each week in my house.

definitely keep at least one tub in the house - as mentioned, most importantly for kids, and
2nd, for anyone who just likes or prefers baths,
3rd, for anyone who NEEDS to bathe (people with casts on who need to keep it dry, the elderly, the sick or injured, etc),
4th, for bathing your dog! :dogrun:
5th, for washing large miscellaneous items like mini-blinds, big sweaters (if you don't have a utility sink in your laundry room), glass refrigerator shelves, etc.,
and #6 (my personal favorite) - to use for submerging pre-pasted wallpaper in!!!! (much easier than using a water pan!) :thumbup: :thinker:
