I recently acquired a used Amana side-by-side fridge. When it was first installed, there was a slow water leak coming from the door on the freezer side. This corrected itself a couple of days afterwards, so I assumed that it was a product of defrosting. (I could've been wrong.) This morning, I woke up to find a puddle of water on the ground. The water dispenser also was not working and some of the items in the freezer had defrosted. Could this be a result of the freezer not being closed all the way during the night? (My daughter sometimes opens the freezer and does not close it fully.) Any ideas? Thanks.

Yes leaving the door open some can defrost the freezer or if bearly cracked open it will frost up the thing pretty good. You need to adjust the front feet to where the door will swing shut on its own. If it defrosted as a result of being left open then it should drop back to freezing as soon as you
close it and make sure it stays closed. Keep a close eye on it for a couple days to make sure that the problem is not the defrost timer or some other
problem.
My concerns would be with the freezer at present and not worry about
the water dispenser until you know its cooling properly.

Canuck -- did you ever solve the problem?

I woke up this morning with a small puddle of water on my floor. I also have an Amana side-by-side fridge. The only difference is that my water dispenser has not worked at all (not a drip) for 2 years. Now this morning, it is dripping at a rate of 1 drip every 10 seconds. The level you press with a cup to start and stop the flow of water into the cup seems to do nothing.

We never used the water dispenser do I just want it to stop dripping. Although we use the ice maker, so I do not want to shut the water off for the whole fridge. Any ideas? Can the water dispenser assembly in the door be easier worked on?

Thanks
Steve

If the door does not seal/not shut real well, it is more apt to cause condensation water problems where the cold air meets the warm damp house air (cause of condensation), than being a defrost issue, in my opinion.
