i have a b&s 8hp motor, will any b&s 8hp crank work on it?

yes, but rather get same model, type and code engine crank to be sure of no problems, they all aren't the same.

Contact G-Team Racing (http://www.g-team.us/) at donmownator@g-team.us he's currently working on 8hp modifications for Lawn Mower Racing Engines, and he would know what you're up against in that respect, might even have a few spares to fit your needs lying around that don't meet specifications for his application. To the best of my knowledge as long as they're either both horizontal or both vertical shaft they should be interchangeable but Don would know much better in that respect.
