My parents gave me an RCA (48") Projection TV. They tried getting the sound back on and it wouldn't work. After I brought it home, I plugged it in and the sound worked with no problems.
The screen was really faint. So I opened it up and the 3 tubes had dust on them. I cleaned the TV out really well and closed it back up, turned it on and the difference was night and day.
The next problem I encountered was the screen's blue color is real fuzzy. So fuzzy to the point of it being a halo effect. It still is watchable and doesn't seem to bother my wife, but to me it is a bother.
I took it about one more time and turned on the TV to see what the tubes were doing. I looked down in the blue tube and I saw moisture on the lens. So I took apart the lens and saw there was an oil inside of the compartment under the lens. It was only half full. It looks like whatever this oil is, leaked out and must be causing this effect.
Does anyone know what kind of oil is used for this TV and how I would go about filling the cavity back up and checking for leaks?
Thanks for any help offered!
