I just fired up my 1988 Arctic Cat Cougar today and have had several problems i would appreciate some help with. When i first went to start it I found the throttle cable was stuck. I eventually was able to free it and start the engine. It was running rough so i looking into the carbs(2) and found one of the slides to be stuck. I removed/cleaned it before replacing and it seemed to slide properly and open equal to that of the other carb. I then started it and found several problems:
1 The engine would stall unless slight tension was maintained on the throttle
2. At low idle the engine would bog with rapid throttle and in some instances required throttle pumping to prevent stalling, but would eventually run smooth at high throttle levels
3. At maintained high throttle levels gas would spew out of a port on the top of the carb (air intake side), but only the one that HAD BEEN stuck.

Where do i start?? Should i consider rebuilding the carbs...what does this entail, and how much$$? How do i set the carbs to ensure proper mixing and could that be a problem? I did have to adjust the throttle cables, but both seem to be opening simultaneously. Any help would be greatly appreciated as winter is fast approaching Maine!! Thanks--Scott

I had the same problem and I can say without a doubt that it is your throtle switch. Inside the throtle is two switches incase it freezes. you just have to disconect these switches and you will have full sucsess.
