Sounds like a simple problem: As I turn the knob in my shower to make the water hotter, it stays lukewarm and pressure is lost. What could be the problem?

Sounds like the cartridge has a problem. Remove the handle and cartridge (after turning off the water supply) and see if the "O" rings are bad. If you know the brand you can get a whole replacement cartridge. Good luck.
