Hello,
My house is about 50 years old and I have hardwood floors throughout. In the living room I want to cut out a 12x15 portion and in-lay carpet. I would trim the cut-out with mitered corners.

I do alot of projects but don't know where to start on this one. I'm looking for all the information and tips I can get.

All help is appreciated!

oh my gosh!!! please don't cut out the wood flooring! can't you just have the 12x15 piece of carpeting bound like an area rug??? you will be forever permanently ruining that wood floor. please reconsider!!!!

Hardwood flooring adds value to your home. A lovely area rug would add softness and drama to the room.

I'm far from being a designer but sometimes I know what I like even before my wife tells me. Looked at a condo the other day where they did what you are considering. IMO it looked goofy at best and because they had done this throughout the condo, it really added cost to replace. Also complicated furniture placement and room layout.

In a house that old, you may find after you cut the floor, there is no subfloor, but joists staring you in the face.

Make an area rug and have it bound, and moderatly stapled in place, over a felt cushion.
