Hi,
A friend gave me a great coffee table as a housewarming gift and I really need some suggestions about decorating it. It has two drawers, but the top is mostly glass, so you can see into the top drawer. I want to put something in the drawer, but I don't know what?? I did have some books in it, but didn't like it (they were my husbands star wars books!! Yikes!) I have two little boys, one of which is two, so anything on top of the coffee table would be destroyed within 24 hours :) I was thinking of putting a wreath in it at Christmas time, but I'm not sure about after that. The table is white with black knobs. I would love any suggestions!!
Thanks,
Teri

it's called a curio table, and i used to have one. first off, make sure the color of the inside of the "drawer" is what you want. if it's lined like mine was, and the felt isn't the right color, you can change it to whatever you want. mine was black which was great, but i've seen hunter green & burgundy. then try to think of something you really want to display and that would benefit from being under protective glass (and safe from curious toddlers!). think of it like a huge shadow box. i displayed our wedding album opened to a favorite page and placed the book toward one corner & then set my on-top-of-the-glass items on the table in the opposite corner. maybe you've got a shell collection or a bunch of loose photos you could arrange in there with some related objects interspersed with the photos. try to use related items for a theme. for the holidays, you can arrange greenery (like pieces from a garland, but not just a round wreath) & shiny round ornaments laced with gold bead garland or whatever. it's great for changing out the items for different holidays & seasons.
one tip, though - don't feel compelled to fill it up completely. it's not a drawer, it's a display case so arrange the items artfully, leaving some open areas where you can have something placed on top of the glass without it covering up something below. overlap items and mix different textures, sizes & shapes. also make sure it looks nice from all angles.
once you've played with it a while, you'll figure it out. you may even need to shop for some things to put in there.
