I have a Kenmore Gas Dryer Model 97573220 75732 which just started acting up. It works great (clothes are dry and timer works fine) except when I set the timer and shut the door and it starts automatically instead of having to push the "Start" button, then when the cycle is complete the buzzer goes off and won't stop until I open the door. It never did this before and the machine and venting are clean as a whistle inside and out.

Hello krawck. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
Check the optional settings buttons. One of them may be stuck. The one that extends the cycle to avoid wrinkling, etc. Could also be a stuck contact in the timer, depending upon model.
Additional Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem possibilities, causes, solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, pictorials, schematics, downloadable repair and or owners manuals which may be available online.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the most likely possible problem may be. They will need the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts and problem resolving matters. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs or services. Always check for gas leaks whenever moving the appliance and/or a service or repair includes any connection of a gas part.

Thanks but my dryer doesn't have Optional Settings Buttons, just a timer dial which moves along fine and a "Push To Start" button.

PROBLEM SOLVED! I replaced the "Push To Start" switch (for only $7.00 brand new) and it works perfectly again. Thanks anyway guys.

Hey, krawck--do you mind telling me how you replaced that switch (where did you buy it, is it easy to install, etc.)? My dryer is doing the exact same thing and it's very frustrating! Thanks a lot!

Look at the date of krawck's post. I doubt he will be coming around. :)
All you have to do is access the top control panel and and open it up and see from the inside view how the start switch looks. It probably is a separate button that only has a couple of wires and is held in by a couple of screws. Otherwise, if it was more complex, it would cost more than $7. Should be about as easy as a changeout job as you can get.
But if I was you? *I* hate making diagnostic errors. I would continuity test through the incoming and outgoing tangs on the start switch, by testing the tangs just as it sets (with the two wires pulled off)...and then test between the two tangs when I pushed in the button. If you show continuity even without pushing in on the button, then indeed it be shot.
