Hi , I recently remodeled a room . It has 3 red walls and the 4th wall is red and cream color toile paper. My window is on the papered wall. I have wide white woodwork and was told I should not cover the woodwork up. What is the best curtain treatment for this type of window? Should it be sheers covering the woodwork or hung on the inside of the window from top to the sill. And any color suggestions, light sheers, dark drapes ,help please .Thanks

anything installed as an inside mount. blinds, shades, shutters, curtains - your choice but installed inside the frame.

as for a recommendation, you don't say what room it is (i'd guess dining room?), or whether you need light control or privacy, or how formal/casual the room is to be! but my first thought is a nice functioning balloon shade done in a rich coordinating fabric - maybe a matching toile fabric or a ticking stripe, or tone on tone stripe, or a little check..... it would depend on if there are upholstered chairs to take into consideration, or place mats/napkins or an area rug, little shades on a chandelier, etc. it all needs to coordinate.

oops! just noticed "Victorian" in your title........... you'll want to do it up a little more than a simple balloon shade. or at least embellish it more with fringe or tassles, etc. a maybe use a richer heavier fabric like velvet.

i'm not sure leaving all the window trim exposed is really in keeping with the Victorian style. the Victorian windows were very heavily dressed in several layers. i think anything mounted inside might look too wimpy for the style. you'll want full length draperies, maybe even pooling on the floor, heavy fabrics, lace, swags, jabots, etc. unless you're doing a simpler modified version of Victorian.

do you have other woodwork that will show, like crown moulding or picture moulding? nice trimwork around the doors?

Annette , Sorry this was my first time on site guess I needed to give more info . This room is used as a family room . I have a 1/2 window in an entry door and one standard size window on the wall that is papered. . My ceilings are 9 1/2 feet tall cream colored, thinking about putting wood trim around top of walls 2 ins below ceiling and bring ceiling color down to the wood. The woodwork around the window is 5 in wide with the rosettes on top and around the door, white. The floors are cherry stained as is the wood furniture in the room. Sofa color same as walls with toile print pillows on it , sits against the wall with toile wallpaper. Dark blue leather chair , sage green chair both solid color , smaller red ,green & gold floral print chair with wood arms. Rug is muti color dark red , blues , green golds , dark color almost black no fringe on it. In the room next to this one I have cream lace curtains topped with burgandy colored fringed swags , walls are cream colored. This a 108 year old stone home I'm trying to restore as best I can, boy what a job. Thanks for responding and for any further info you can give me I love the new room ,its almost too pretty for family room but only one that can be use that way, Thanks again Vicki

so, in the adjoining room, do the swags cover up that window's woodwork?
