I am going to replace my carpeted stairs with hardwood treads and paint the risers. I wasn't sure where to stop the carpeting at the top of the stairs. Should I stop is at the bottom of the top riser or wrap it around the bullnose and staple it at the top of the riser? If I try to wrap it do I use a tack strip? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i'd vote for just wrapping the bullnose & leaving the riser exposed like all the rest of them.

Annette,

Do you know how the carpet should be attached if I wrap it?

Staple it. Or you could install a matching wooden bullnose and carpet up to it on the hall side. It'll look like the upstairs is wood too.
