I have to put three prehung doors in our basement. They will be 76 -72 inches and how do I trim these? I am familiar with trimming the bottom of the doors but I am worried about them know being to low if I trim 8 inches off the bottom alone. I am pretty much stuck with this being they are prehung right?

Thanx in advance.

If you cut it all off of the bottom, you'd have to get on your knees to open the doorknob. ;)

What I would do is cut it all off the top. Take the door off its hinges and cut 6" off the top (for example). While you have the door off it's hinges, take the prehung jamb apart, and cut 6" off the top of the jamb. (you'll probably want to rabbet the joint to replicate the current joint). You may or may not need to remortise the hinge, depending on how much you are cutting off. When you reassemble the door, it should work great- especially if you don't have to mess with the hinges at all.

Thanx alot for your answer. It looks like you are a very handy person to have on this forum.

I measured and it looks like it will be 3-4 inches for trimming down. I will just take it off the bottom. Anything over 4 and I think I would have done as you said.
