My current subfloor is two layers; the bottom layer is 3/4 inch plywood and the top layer is 1/2 inch plywood. I've had to remove a little less than half the subfloors to have the joists repaired. The bottom layer of 3/4 inch plywood has been installed. I understand that having two layers of 3/4 inch plywood is better than having one layer of 3/4 and one layer of 1/2. Is the improvement worth it to have the remaining top layer of 1/2 inch plywood removed and have a full second layer of 3/4 inch plywood installed?

NO! You have plenty of subfloor with the 1¼" you have.

Not to highjack the thread, but I have a related question. I'm re-doing the floor in my loft and planned to replace the 1/2" crap that is currently here with 3/4" ply. I want to stain and finish that as my main floor so I can conserve space (I hit my head enough as is). Wouldn't the 3/4 be enough on it's own?
