I'm building an addition and calculated out the ground pressure under the footer as between 283-350psf under different walls from the dead load, or 294-413psf if I assume an average 20psf live load on the 2nd floor. (1st floor is a slab and not on the footer, so I don't have to worry about that at least) Do you think I'll have a settling problem? The soil here is a mix of sand and clay, but I don't know the exact properties. Will I have any settling problems, do you think? I'm exceeding IRC footer width requirements because I used the footer dimensions a PE friend at my last job who does a lot of commercial design recommended, but this pressure seems so low, I'm tempted to save a couple hundred bucks in concrete and downsize to the IRC minimums. Anyone here have any advice?
