Hello,
My basement flooded and I was advised by the carpet store that the padding needs to come up. He said there was a four week wait time and the smell was unbarable. So I tore the carpet up and began the removal. Everything was going fine until I got to the seam where two sections meet. A glue strip was used (basically tape) and I just tore up the carpet, which, in some areas, pulled the threads through the backing. Now I have a big mess of yarn strands and some bald spots at the seam.
My question is... should I try to patch it, or give in and call a pro?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like the water is delaminating the carpet. It may be patchable, but chances are the backing has been compromised by the moisture, and will delaminate and wrinkle in the near future after reinstallation.
