I have a Kenmore gas range model 362.7391990. The oven will not heat. The burner ignites but will not go to high fire to heat the oven. We had a serviceman out to look at it and he said the temperature sensor was OK but the problem was in the controller at a cost of $450 to replace. Is the controller repairable at a reasonable price and is it easily removed?

At that price for that part, yes, try doing it yourself. I suspect that cost includes labor? In that case, unplug the oven, remove the front panel and remove the controller yourself.
Write down the brand name, model and serial numbers. Stop in at any local appliance parts store. Price the part. If the price is right, buy it and reinstall it exactly as the existing one is currently installed. Parts Dealers and appliances parts stores are listed in the phone book.
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem possibilities, causes, solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, pictorials, schematics, repair and or owners manuals which may be available online.

Is there some place I can get an electrical diagram of the range and particularly the timer/controller? The serviceman who came out was not a repairman, he was a parts changer. Before I spend $150, I want to be sure that part will fix the problem.

Some OEM web sites and maybe even sears own site below, may have downloadable PDF files with plenty of helpful info. Not sure a diagram will be included. Also inquire at any local appliance parts store. They should have pictures they can print from the CD for you with the parts and wiring diagrams. Worth a try.
Another suggestion is to look first. The part may have a quick disconnect or simply be plugged into an electronic board. May be easier than one thinks.
