I am in the middle of trying to fix my wall in the hallways. They were wallpapered and i hate that so i stripped them to find nothing but attempts at crack filling and ALOT of little knick and cuts all over the walls.... To get rid of the lumps of crack fill I sanded and now the walls are smooth except for the many little knick i need to fill in.. Does anyone have any suggestion on what type of crack fill I should use( i am going to paint the walls afterone wall had to be completely crack filled) and I also have an 8 monthold at home .. would the fumes be too much for him?? Thanks so much !

If you're down to the drywall surface - and facing nicks/cuts in the surface - any decent drywall patch product from a home improvement store will work. Use a relatively wide knife (3 - 6inches - want to overlap greatly the nicks/cuts) to ensure a smooth finish. You should not have any issues with fumes/odors. I would suggest a container of drywall joint compound - but a 5 gallon container will probably be much more than you need.

I think you can still get joint compound in 1 gal buckets [ I never buy it because it costs about 1/2 of what 5 gal cost] You may only need a quart can of spackling. Be sure to sand and prime all the repairs.

Thanks for the help. The crack filling and sanding is done, what a mess, but now it is ready to prime and paint. It was a birthday present to myself and hopefully i will have it all done by the fifteenth so i can give myself my other present ( Decorating for christmas) .... Take care all.
