Simple question - this is my first deck building project and I want to use hidden IPE/Ebty fasteners on 5/4" pressure treated wood decking. Will either of these work with PTW and which is better? Deck is 36'x16' rectangle, 5/4" boards @ 16oc running parrallel across the back of the house.

check out this fastener @ www.deckfastener.com
the TC-2 fastener will work great on treated lumber.
it's cheaper, easier,fastener and holds your boards in place much better than a plastic clip.

Don,
The IPE folks have kind of scarred me off of any hidden fastener because of the shrinkage issue. However, the boards will only shrink so much and I plan to use liquid nail on each deck board as well as the fastener. These just may well be the ticket. Thanks for the tip!

one question that always comes up when dealing with tigerclaw fasteners (tc-2, etc.)... what to do if one board decides to rot, and it just happens to be somewhere in the middle of the deck?

Do NOT glue the deck boards to the joists!!
If you have to tear up 1/2 the deck to get to a rotten board in the middle (Is any other one going to rot??), so be it. But using the Liquid Nails will require that you replace the JOISTS as well as the deck boards. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT! Somebody else had the same bright idea, and the homeowner paid dearly for it.
