Humm, I bought a replacement tank for my American-Standard toilet. It looks great and matches the color perfectly. The tank is a little larger than the old one, and the hole for the flush-valve is too big (it's 3-1/4 inches diameter).

A little detective work has told me that the tank is for a Cadet 'power assist' toilet (tank: 4086). All I got is the tank and lid, not innerds other than what I have from the old tank.

My question is: Is there a large flush-valve assembly that anyone knows of that will fit a 3-1/4" opening? It looks like it should still mate with the toilet reasonably. Or, maybe an adapter that will convert this down to the smaller, normal size?

I read some hints that Toto uses a 3" flush-valve on some models. I wonder where I could get my hands on one of those...

I'm wary of trying to get the proper guts for this tank for two reasons: Cost, and I'm a little worried what a power-assist tank will do to my usually gravity-fed toilet.

Thanks! Any advice would be great!

Phil

You cannot mix and match toilet bowls and tanks. They are designed as a set. First, if your tank was a pressure assist, it may not fit anything else. Also, it is meant to couple with a bowl that is specifically designed as pressure assist. Second, if your bowl is older than 1992, it is likely not a 1.6 gallon design, and therefor would not flush well with any tank you could purchase today. You may not even be able to line up the bolt holes.

I must be suspicious of any tank which somehow came to you without the innards, because they are not sold that way. What is the reason someone is pawning this relic off on you?

I think this is true, mostly from an asthetics point of view. I got a tank that's the same manufacturer and color, and it looks pretty good on the toilet.

I'd have to draw a difference when it comes to technical aspects, though. I'm not a plumber (IANAP), but tanks fill, tanks hold, and tanks flush. I seriously doubt there is some significant differences in functionality in any of these due to some subtle design differences!

Oh, I can make it fit. =') The mount holes are a little off, but I've got off-set bolts that can fix that. If I wanted to go nuts, I could just use a masonry bit to drill some new holes and fill the stock ones, but that's not nessesary. (offset bolts (http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=adjustable+tank-to-bowl&btnG=Search+Froogle&hl=en))

eBay! :') It was cheap, and happened to be the color I needed. Worth the chance, imho, to see if I could make it work. I'm hoping you can help me.

I'm a hack and love to try to make things work when the sometimes seem like they might not. At this point, I could fab up an adapter and get the stock flush valve to work. But, it would be slicker to have a 3" valve, or a nice adapter.

More research indicates that most manufactures offer 3" flush valves these days (including Am Std), I just don't know who might sell just such a flush-valve assembly.

Thanks!

Bump! :')

Anyone know where I can get a 3-inch flush-valve that will fit a 3-1/4" tank hole?

Or an adapter that can make a standard one fit?

Thanks!!

Heh, thanks Shacko. I respect you being candid with me.

You still haven't answered my question in finding a 3" flush valve (or adapter to a 2") so that I can find out that it's a bad road to take! i'm willing to live and learn! ;')
