Hurricane Wilma came through here - and my outdoor ceiling light at my front door burned out. The wind was really strong from the south, and my front door is in an alcove facing south. I just replaced the bulb this afternoon (what an adventure - it's up high, and I don't like climbing up the ladder!), took a shower, and when I checked it about an hour later, it's burned out again. It was a good bulb! Max wattage is 100 watts according to the sticker in the enclosed light - and I put in a 60 watt. Any ideas why this burned out so fast? Is this an indication of an electrical problem there?

Could have just been a bad bulb. What happened when you replaced it again?

I didn't have another bulb to put in there - actually, I pulled this one out of an existing lamp - had been in there for about 3 weeks, no problem.

It's been my experience that moving a bulb from one fixture to another rarely works. The filaments become fragile after being used for a while. The bulb either blows out instantly or shortly thereafter.

I'd try a new bulb.

Will do - thanks to both of you! I'll let you know how it works out - won't be for a couple of weeks. :)
