Our hardware store, along with the power company as sponsor, have these bulbs on sale tomorrow. I've never seen one. After instant in store rebate the 60 equivalent is only 99 cents, 75 watt is 1.49 and 100 is 1.79. Seems like a good deal to me.
Can these be used in a ceiling fixture going horizontally? The picture in the ad shows only a table lamp and I couldn't find anything on the GE web site.
Ceiling fixtures are rated for (2) 60 watt bulbs, fluorescent are 15 watt (60 watt equivalent)
Guess the question is: will the fluorescent heat up too much for the fixture even though it is only 15 watts?
Thanks,
Baldwin

I know that many compact fluorescents, including spring lamps, can NOT be used base up. It isn't that the heat is too much for the fixture, which is rated for 4 times as many watts. But the fluorescent ballast section of the bulb cannot take the heat of base up. I do not know if base horizontal is acceptable. I would call GE lighting to find out for sure.

My power company offered a similar deal awhile back and I replaced almost every light in the house with these CFL's. I am using them in all positions in open and enclosed fixtures, and have had no problems.
As far as heat, there is almost none (well, some, but not much).
