I have removed an old ceiling fan. I have 3 wires to it, white, black and red (there is also a green ground wire). I want to hook up a 2 wire chandelier which has a white and a black wire. Which of the three wires in the box goes to the two wires on the light ? This is a switched box, and I have 120 volts across the white and black wires in the box.....however white to red or black to red shows zero volts. Logic would seem to suggest that I cap off the red wire, use the black and white for my light and all would be well, but a check with the experts never hurts !

Thanks in advance.

Was the fan or light or both controlled by switches. If only one switch then try white and black. If the switch doesn't work then try white and red.

Thanks for the quick reply !
It's one switch, and the black to black and white to white works perfectly.

Again, many thanks, gentlemen.......
