Last week I noticed green moss growing on the exterior of our fireplace chimney. We've owned the house since 1996 and this is the first time it's happened. The chimney is on the north side of the house. We do not use the fireplace.
Any suggestions on removing the moss?
Thanks in advance...Art waleygator@yahoo.com

There is a zinc-based powder product that can be added to water in a garden sprayer and sprayed onto the moss. Should be available at most stores that sell garden products. Apply per manufacturer's instructions.

AS STATED above how to remove, but how to stop it next year is to have the chimney checked out by a chimney person ,,most likely you have a crack in the crown of the chimney which is allowing water ,or rain in the chimney which is slowly leeching out allow the moss to grow

clean the moss off with a pressure washer and some bleach. if you can, attach zinc flashing strips to the top course of brick or on the cap. as rain falls zinc will leach from the strips onto the brick preventing further growth. had moss on my roof and attached the strips under the top course of shingles. three years and no growth. not even on the north side.
